Thanks to many advances in hair restoration technology, hair loss no longer needs to be accepted as a fact of life. There are many non-invasive and minimally invasive options available to address thinning hair and regain areas of hair loss.
One option to consider is hair transplant surgery. If you have preconceived notions about hair transplant surgery, you owe it to yourself to find out about two advanced procedures: the NeoGraft hair restoration system and the ATRAS system. Both restore hair growth using state-of-the-art hair transplant technology.
NeoGraft Hair Restoration
To appreciate the NeoGraft system, consider how hair transplant surgery has been done in the past. You may have heard of a hair transplant procedure called the strip method.
The strip method consists of removing a strip of the scalp with a scalpel, dissecting it to remove hair follicles, and then transplanting the follicles to the scalp. The exposed strip of the scalp is then stitched or stapled closed, leaving a linear scar.
The NeoGraft method of hair transplant surgery is a much more precise method of extracting hair follicles that avoids cutting and scarring.
How Does NeoGraft Work?
Instead of using a scalpel to remove a strip of skin, the NeoGraft system uses an automated follicular unit extraction (FUE) device. The FUE device carefully and precisely removes healthy hair follicles without using a scalpel. This method of extraction leaves no linear scar.
What Happens During a NeoGraft Procedure?
NeoGraft is a minimally invasive hair restoration procedure performed in an outpatient setting by our certified NeoGraft technician. Preparation is simple, and downtime is manageable.
Prepping the Donor Site
The donor site, usually a spot on the back of the neck above the nape, is where your hair follicles are harvested for transplantation. This area should be shaved before your procedure.
Many patients cut their hair short beforehand to make the shaved area less noticeable; those with longer hair can use it to hide the shaved area with a little strategic placement.
Extracting the Follicles
Each hair follicle contains one to three individual hairs. Once the follicles are extracted with the NeoGraft system, they are carefully separated and implanted in areas of the scalp where you are experiencing hair loss. Your hairline and the crown and sides of your head are typical treatment areas. You will be awake for the entire procedure.
After the Procedure
Some patients experience tenderness around the donor site for a few days; most can resume normal activities in a week or two.
When Are Results Visible?
The natural growth of the transplanted follicles is usually noticeable within 8 to 12 months.
ARTAS: The Art and Science of Hair Restoration
Without a doubt the most scientifically advanced hair restoration solution, the ARTAS system uses artificial intelligence and robotics to ensure you achieve natural results with minimal downtime and no linear scarring.
The ARTAS machine uses a fully automated robotic arm to analyze the best follicles for transplanting. The follicles are then gently harvested from the donor area with robotic speed — up to thousands of times per session. As with the NeoGraft procedure, the extraction of follicles is so delicate that it’s barely visible on the skin afterward.
Your follicles will then be implanted strategically by our clinical director in the areas where your hair is thinning or balding to blend in with your naturally growing hair.
Prepping for ARTAS
As with the NeoGraft procedure, you will prep your donor area by shaving it before the procedure. This image-guided robot will then accurately visualize and harvest each follicular unit. You will be given detailed instructions regarding the required length of your hair.
Is Anesthesia Required?
Only local anesthesia is needed during the procedure, so you will be awake and comfortable throughout.
Minor discomfort and swelling may be expected for one to three days after the procedure. Most patients can resume their normal activities after a few days.
How Soon Are Results Visible?
As with any procedure of this kind, individual results and timelines vary. As early as three months after the procedure, you may see new, fine hairs beginning to grow. A noticeable improvement is often seen around six months. Full, natural-looking results should be visible after one year.
Which Hair Transplant Surgery Is Right for Me?
Hair transplant for women is not uncommon; the NeoGraft system may be right for you if you are a woman who desires long-lasting restoration and fullness to your hairline, the crown of your head, or the sides of your head.
Our clinical director will consider several factors to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for NeoGraft hair restoration, including:
- The potential for future hair loss
- The density and quality of your donor hair
- Your hair texture
During your consultation, our team will also determine the number of procedures needed to achieve your hair restoration goals.
